SSYC member and Hobgoblin crewmate Shelly Galligan has embarked on a 2,700-mile journey across the Pacific Ocean, delivering a 50-year-old Cal 40 from Nawiliwili Harbor in Kauai, Hawaii, to Santa Cruz, CA. Arrival at the mainland will be toward the end of September. Skipper Shelly’s two crew members are Ryan Finn and Eric Bowen. Eric crewed with her on a Panama-to-Tampa delivery earlier this year.
The boat, Shaman, is a bit of a movie star. Owner Tom Burden does the West Marine Advisor series, and Shaman is often featured in the videos. She’s also been a very successful race boat. Tom uses her to raise money for two cancer charities that help women and children.
One of his sails has the names of cancer survivors on one side and the names of cancer victims on the other. He raced the Single-Handed Transpac to Kauai this summer and hired Shelly to bring the boat back. Follow her trip here. Watch a video about Tom Burden’s Transpac adventure here.
