Harken Video Series

Teaming Up With Harken

I teamed up with Harken to create a series of educational videos for the Harken Blockheads youth sailing program. Though they were created for youth sailors, the information applies to everyone, the young and the young at heart. Check out the videos, along with their corresponding articles, below.

Tips for Sailing Nutrition

What we eat and drink on race day will impact our performance! Sailing is a strenuous physical activity. Though this pre-race nutrition video is aimed at youth sailors on race day, it’s for every sailor, every day; high school and collegiate sailing teams; weekend regatta sailors; beer can racers; kids in sailing lessons; and those day sailing with the family.

Getting and Staying Hydrated on Race Day

What we drink on race day will impact our performance as much as what we eat! Water makes up more than two-thirds of the weight of the human body so staying hydrated is super important. It’s not enough to drink only when we’re thirsty.

Musculoskeletal Injuries & How to Treat Them

What’s a musculoskeletal injury? These are injuries to our muscles and bones. They have names like sprains, strains, and fractures and happen from things like slips, trips, falls, and whacks. This video goes through what musculoskeletal injuries are, how to treat them, basic information on splinting, and where to go for hands-on training.

Simple Wound Care on the Water

We’ve talked about wound care in a previous post, however, I’m a big fan of repetition, especially for subjects that can seem daunting. This video will review some of the concepts. The more we talk about things like this, the more likely they are to become muscle memory when you need them.

Protecting Your Eyes from Excessive Sun Exposure

The sun isn’t just damaging to the skin. It’s damaging to the eyes. In this video, you will learn how to protect your eyes from sun damage on the water and how to care for them after exposure. There’s even a tip on what color lenses offer the best optics on the water.
