I would love to provide a seminar for your group or organization that gets down to the nitty gritty of what can go wrong with us — the people — on a boat. I’ll introduce you to practical, no nonsense strategies to effectively prevent and respond to the medical emergencies you may encounter aboard. I’ll include suggestions for supplies to keep in your medical kit, tips about using items commonly found on boats to assist in treating injury, and resources for further study. You will come away with the self-confidence and knowledge that you are prepared for medical emergencies on the water. Talking about this stuff can be scary. It’s also exciting to discover that you have huge power to intervene effectively. This talk is not only fun, it could save your life. Let’s get to it.

Hands On Workshops
Point2Point has partnered with Sea Safaris Sailing School to bring you a full day of nautical first aid. You asked and we heard you! We are bringing informational and practical nautical medical training to boaters. You will…
- Have a full day of expert instruction covering practical strategies for dealing with medical emergencies on the water.
- Gain the skills to deal with the injuries and illnesses you may experience onboard.
- Benefit from a small group, hands-on setting as you learn how to apply that knowledge.
- Learn how to build your own onboard medical kit and practice hands-on skills using some of the more daunting items it includes.
- Simulate scenarios of what could happen and how to respond, including practicing calling the Coast Guard for help.
This workshop can be taught as either a full day or two half-day sessions. For location, more information, and a schedule of classes please visit SeaSafarisSailingSchool.com. Don’t see dates and times that work for you? Let’s plan your group’s event now!
Hands-on training designed for your crew. I will create a program tailored for your team’s specific needs. We can start with some classroom discussion, then hop on your boat to review scenarios, practice what we’ve learned, grab the radio to practice calling for medical help, and pull out your first aid kit to familiarize your team with what’s available and how to use it. Best of all, it will even be fun!
No time during sailing season? Let’s schedule a few hours during the off season! Bring your first aid kit ashore at haul out, gather the team, and we’ll have everything we need for the perfect skills-reinforcement activity.
Medical Safety Audits
Having a well stocked medical kit, knowing where it is and how to use your supplies are key components to handling medical emergencies aboard effectively. What systems do you have in place to handle a medical emergency? Do you have a plan? What safety equipment do you have and where is it located? How do you communicate this information to your crew? What is your drill schedule? Let’s take a look at what supplies you have in your kit and how it’s organized; check expiration dates; and see if there’s anything else to make it more complete. While any time is a great time to do this, it’s especially important before a long passage, a big offshore race, or at the start of the season.
No time during sailing season? This is a perfect winter project! Bring your kit ashore at haul out and we’ll update and upgrade it in time for next spring.
CPR, AED and First Aid Certification
I’m certified to teach American Heart Association CPR, AED and First Aid to both laypeople and healthcare providers. This means you can add getting CPR certified to the list of things to do this winter or any time. This service can stand alone for your crew, office, family or group; or combine it with a Team Training and we’ll make a day of it. It’ll be fun!
Onboard Nursing Care for Nearshore or Offshore Passages
Do you have a passage you’d love to make, but someone aboard has healthcare concerns? Perhaps someone has a medical problem that’s causing you to hesitate fulfilling a dream trip? Would having a registered nurse with a nautical background aboard, who has been extensively trained to promote and restore health; collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team; provide physical and psychological support; and has a set of critical thinking skills honed over a lifetime in an emergency setting make it less daunting? I am available to accompany you on such passages to provide expert nursing care to those who may require it. The peace of mind in having an ER nurse on board — who is also a licensed captain — may be just what the doctor ordered. Ugh. Sorry, that was cheesy.
Power and Sailboat Deliveries
I know how challenging it can be to find reliable professionals to move boats safely between ports. The challenges only increase as you add circumstances such as the need for repairs prior to voyage or deliveries involving foreign ports. I also know that safety and reliability are measured in many ways. My crew and I are flexible, experienced and ready to assist with your delivery needs. Although we are bi-nautical (we’ll move power boats too!), we specialize in sailboats and have an extensive network of professionals at our disposal to custom-fit a team to your specific situation. We’d love the opportunity to provide you with a proposal on a project, especially if it’s tricky or unusual!
Shore Support and Logistics
Great shore support can make all the difference in ensuring a safe, happy, well-fed, organized crew. It’s a well-known fact that a happy crew is a FAST crew. Let me work the details, so you can concentrate on winning flags!
